World Poker Tour (WPT) and BetMGM NJ said next month’s partypoker US Network Festival in New Jersey will be headlined by the first-ever WPT Online Borgata Poker Open, a three-day event that features a $3,500 buy-in with a $1 million guaranteed prize pool and a live-streamed final table.

The overall partypoker US Network Festival starts September 12 and runs through September 21. Although the festival schedule has not yet been announced by WPT or BetMGM NJ, the partners did reveal that the festival will include satellite tournaments starting at $5, as well as a freeroll tournament. Those side events offer players an opportunity to participate in the main event.

WPT Online Borgata Poker Open

The WPT Online Borgata Poker Open, an official WPT Main Tour event, will be held on the last three days of the partypoker US Network Festival—from September 19 through September 21. Play starts at 5:00 pm ET for the first day of the event and 7:00 pm ET for the remaining two days. Day 3 of the event is only for the final table, which will be live streamed.

Only eligible players in New Jersey may participate in the WPT Online Borgata Poker Open. Players may participate in the event through BorgataPoker.com, BetMGMPoker.com or NJ.PartyPoker.com, but they must be physically located within New Jersey to register and play in the tournament.

All of the events are powered by the partypoker US Network, a network unique to New Jersey that includes a shared player pool through BetMGM Poker NJ, Borgata Poker NJ and partypoker NJ.

Sexton Cup Returns to New Jersey

Since the WPT Online Borgata Poker Open is an official WPT Main Tour event, the winner will become a member of the WPT Champions Club and have their name etched on the Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup trophy. The winner will also accrue WPT Player of the Year points.

Conversely, since none of the side events are considered official events of the WPT Main Tour, the winners of the side events are not eligible for the aforementioned rewards.

“[This] marks the return of the Sexton Cup to New Jersey,” said WPT CEO Adam Pliska. “We are very happy that WPT’s strategic move in online tournaments has been bolstered by one of the longest and most prestigious casinos on the tour.” The Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup is etched with the names of all 18 previous WPT season champions.

“BetMGM has found a great partner in WPT and are excited to work together again to bring another online Main Tour event to New Jersey,” said BetMGM’s vice president of gaming, Matthew Sunderland. “Our last Main Tour event together was a huge success, and we look forward to offering players in New Jersey a piece of the $1 million prize pool.”

Angelica Hael, vice president of Global Tour Management for WPT, added: “This event follows-up on the three incredible series held in 2020, and we are confident this series will continue pushing our partnership to new heights.”
