Ocean Casino Resort, one of Atlantic City’s premier gambling destinations, is set to launch a new retail sportsbook this year through a partnership with USBookmaking, a subsidiary of Elys Game Technology Corporation.

Ocean’s existing sportsbook, powered by William Hill, will be scrapped in favor of the new project. Construction is expected to begin in March 2022 and conclude by the summer.

The construction of the new sportsbook comes as part of the deal that Ocean made with USBookmaking in November of last year, which entailed the company powering Ocean’s retail betting, pending regulatory approvals from the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (NJDGE).

Ocean applied for the license in November and petitioned the NJDGE to allow them to begin the construction of the new sportsbook this spring.

The new USBookmaking-powered sportsbook will span 2,500 square feet and should cost around $4 million in total. Once done, it will completely replace the existing William Hill retail sportsbook at the resort, while Ocean’s online partners, Tipico and Out the Gate, will still continue providing services.

Ocean itself is undergoing a $75 million remodel, with the property’s existing 12-story hotel being refurbished and a special high-stakes casino floor set to be open in the coming months, providing an even more complete experience for the high-rollers who visit the venue.

Retail Sportsbook at Ocean Casino Resort

Ocean has been at the center of the Atlantic City sports betting scene for several years now, with the existing “Revel” sportsbook powered by William Hill launching in 2018 in the middle of the casino floor.

In 2021, Ocean reported that their sportsbook was the second-highest-grossing in all of Atlantic City, raking in more than $2.4 million in revenue that year, only second to Borgata’s BetMGM Sportsbook & Bar which accumulated close to $4.9 million in revenue.

Now, Ocean representatives stated that the new USBookmaking-powered sportsbook will feature an even more immersive sports betting experience and make the overall quality of service even higher, as the company aims for the coveted number one spot among Atlantic City bookmakers.

The Original Deal with Elys Game Technology

Last November, Ocean announced that they had struck a deal with USBookmaking, a subsidiary of Elys Game Technology — a sports betting company that operates with great success in Italy and has been making great strides in the US betting market as well.

“We are excited to partner with USBookmaking to capitalize on their expertise, offering a best-in-class experience,” said Bill Callahan, interim CEO for Ocean. “As Ocean continues to strengthen its position within Atlantic City, the addition of a renowned organization such as USBookmaking should only serve to bolster our land-based wagering product.”

The original plans made with USBookmaking are now coming to fruition, as the gaming regulators have approved the launch of the new retail sportsbook. If no unexpected developments come to pass, we should see the new sportsbook active before summer 2022, along with the other pending improvements to the Ocean Casino Resort facilities.
