New Jersey sportsbooks set a July handle record, taking in $816.9 million in bets, while sportsbook revenue rose to $97 million, according to the state Division of Gaming Enforcement. The wagering total was 23.6% higher than in July 2025, when handle reached $660.9 million.
As covered in our Aug. 15 report on the state’s broader July gaming figures, sports betting was part of a month that also produced strong results for New Jersey’s casinos.
The month was a marked rebound from June. Handle fell 10.9% from June’s record $917.2 million, but revenue climbed 69.4% from $57.3 million. The effective hold was 11.9%, described as the highest of 2026 and nearly double June’s 6.2%.
Online books continued to dominate the market. They generated $94.7 million in July, up 25.5% from a year earlier, and accounted for 97.6% of statewide sportsbook revenue. Retail sportsbooks added $2.3 million after reporting a $680,000 loss in July 2025.
FanDuel Sportsbook NJ remained the state’s leading book with $32.8 million in revenue, up 22% from a year earlier. DraftKings Sportsbook NJ was second with $25.7 million, up 21.8%. Fanatics Sportsbook NJ followed with $10.6 million, BetMGM Sportsbook NJ posted $8.8 million, and bet365 Sportsbook NJ rounded out the top five with $7.7 million. FanDuel and DraftKings together accounted for nearly 62% of online sportsbook revenue.
The state’s “other” sports category, which includes soccer, generated $309.2 million in completed-event handle during July, up 60.2% from $193 million a year earlier. Revenue from that category rose 150.1% to $37 million, as the sportsbook win percentage increased from 7.7% to 12%.
July included most of the FIFA World Cup knockout rounds and the championship match at MetLife Stadium on July 19. The DGE does not report soccer separately from the rest of the “other” category, so the amount wagered specifically on World Cup matches is not available.
Sports wagering generated about $20 million in state taxes in July, bringing year-to-date taxes to $127.3 million. Through the first seven months of 2026, sportsbook revenue stood at $609.9 million, down 2.7% from $626.8 million in the same period last year, although July narrowed the year-to-date revenue gap to $16.9 million from $39 million at the end of June.
