A player identified simply as “Dori B.” recently jumped into some MGM Grand Millions slot action after seeing the progressive jackpot tick up above $3.5 million and hit the biggest score of her life, as well as the biggest casino score ever awarded in the US.
The previous record was $3.2 million, awarded by BetMGM Casino in 2020, so the new $3.5 million prize sets a new standard for casino wins in the US. The progressive jackpot is available to players playing in-house, exclusive slot games, such as MGM Grand Millions, and is touted by BetMGM as the biggest progressive jackpot network in the United States.
Borgata, which operates in the US with partners BetMGM and partypoker, operates three online casino properties in New Jersey: Borgata Casino NJ, BetMGM Casino NJ, and PartyCasino NJ. Between the three skins, the Borgata brands hold the top spot in the New Jersey casino market, a spot it has held onto since May of this year.
In October, the most recent month data is available from New Jersey, the Borgata brands held a bit more than 30% of the marketplace with revenue of nearly $38 million. That was more than $3 million ahead of its closest competitor, Golden Nugget, which posted about $34.5 million in total revenue for October.
Big win changes a life
One of the main reasons people play casino games is for the chance at huge, life-changing prizes from a relatively small investment. One player in New Jersey recently found that life-changing win while playing slots on Borgata Casino NJ.
While slot play comes down to random spins, there is some skill involved in choosing what, and when, to play. Dori B. was on top of that recently, noticing the huge progressive jackpot ticking up into record territory.
“I saw the Colossal Jackpot prize grow past $3.5 million and started playing MGM Grand Millions slot game because I just knew it had to hit soon,” she said, discussing her big win with Borgata staff. “I thought 'someone is going to hit it, maybe it could be me.’”
“On the night I won, all it took was a $10 spin. One second later, I became a millionaire – thanks to BetMGM – and my life has changed forever.” The Colossal Jackpot winner went on to add that she is “a program manager, so I see things in phases. My next phase – filled with family vacations and volunteer work – starts now. My dream of becoming a mega jackpot winner has come true!”
Matthew Sunderland, vice president of gaming at BetMGM, was thrilled to see the big prize go out. “Congratulations to Dori on her record-breaking win,” he said. “We’re thrilled to offer our players life-changing prizes of this size through our exclusive jackpot network and cannot wait to continue setting records throughout the US.”
The latest win sets a new record for casino jackpots in the US, but it was a case of BetMGM breaking its own record. In 2020, the operator awarded the previous largest casino jackpot of $3.2 million, and now, it has bumped that record up to $3.5 million and changed the life of one New Jersey program manager forever.
