BetMGM New Jersey has opened a WNBA Finals sweepstakes that gives players a chance to win two prize packages valued at about $5,000 each. Each package includes two tickets to Game 2 of the WNBA Finals and $2,000 in withdrawable travel-and-lodging funds. The promotion started on Aug. 24 and runs through Sept. 6 at 11:59 p.m. EDT.
According to BetMGM’s promotion terms, customers can earn entries through wagers placed with either BetMGM Casino NJ or BetMGM Sportsbook NJ, and they can also enter by email without making a purchase. For the casino route, players must opt in through the Promotions section of their account, and only WNBA Gold and NBA Gold qualify. New Jersey is one of only three states where casino play counts, alongside Michigan and Pennsylvania.
The casino tiers are cumulative. A player earns one entry after $10 in qualifying wagers, two entries after $20, five after $50, 10 after $100 and the maximum of 25 entries after $250. The same wagering tiers apply through the sportsbook. BetMGM says any available sports market can qualify, as long as the wager is at odds of -200 or longer and settles before it counts.
Wagers that are cashed out, edited or cancelled do not qualify, and the overall cap is 25 entries regardless of whether a customer uses casino play, sportsbook play or both. The email alternative uses the address [email protected] and the subject line “Legendary Experiences: WNBA Finals Sweepstakes.” Each valid email counts as one entry, and a customer would need to send 25 separate emails to reach the limit.
To be eligible through wagering, customers must be at least 21, physically located in New Jersey and have an active, verified BetMGM account. BetMGM will pick two potential winners in a random drawing at least one day after the promotion ends, then contact them by telephone or email. Winners must respond within five business days or forfeit the prize.
The launch comes after a strong July for BetMGM’s New Jersey business. Online casino revenue reached $34.6 million, up 10.1% from a year earlier, while sportsbook revenue rose 37.5% to $8.8 million. New Jersey online casino revenue set a July record of $276.9 million, and the state’s sportsbooks took a record $816.9 million in wagers.
The promotion also arrives against a changing legal backdrop in New Jersey. On Aug. 15, Governor Phil Murphy approved Bill A5447, which ICLG reported as a law prohibiting promotional sweepstakes-style gambling operations across the state. The legislation includes a free-method-of-entry carveout, and the Social and Promotional Games Association called it a “sweeping and ill-conceived ban” in comments quoted by the same report.
